M40 SS Normandy helmet as seen during the Caan and Battle of the
Hedgerows offensive. The SS and Fallschirjager held up the British at
Caan after the Normandy landings and set Montgomery back a month off
his timetable. Once the breakout occurred, the US Forces stalled in the
French country side among the numerous giant hedgerows. Here the SS
distinguished itself in defense.
